SUMMARY #1

Although I have not blogged that often, when reading back on my previous entries and the learnings from class I have realized that I don't have a completely clear understanding of leisure. I realized that instead of using this blog a form of leisure education, I am using it more as a form of an online journal. I am not using the terms that were taught in class, instead I am "talking my words onto paper". What leisure is to me is cheerleading, shopping, hanging out with friends and spending time with my family. All of the above are things I value and are what I consider leisure, so therefore I feel that I do value leisure. I have realized also that I am talking mostly about the same thing in most of my entries which is cheerleading. This blogging experience has made me open my eyes to try new things. My leisure is definitely constrained. If I am missing team members, I cannot run my practices to the full ability. Same thing goes for competitions, if someone is missing, the routine would not be the same. I feel that to become better leisure educated I would have to start using more of the terminology found from the class notes and readings. If that is done then my blog entries should be more up to standard.

My First Night Coaching At Collège Jean-De-Brébeuf!

Last night I held my first practice as head coach of Brébeuf. It started off slow because I only had 3 girls on 20 that had previous cheerleading experience. The practice started off with an introduction of myself and a fast description of my cheerleading experience as both an athlete and a coach. I then proceded to teaching them the first basic cheerleading stunt called a double base. I only wanted to teach them one stunt so that they could get the hang of the technique as well as timing. Then I proceeded to the evaluation of three basic jumps, the toe-touch, the pike and the right and left hurdler.

After all the stunt and jump evaluations we then proceeded to the sizing of our practice uniforms that are going to be made by Kick's Cheerleading www.kickscheerleading.ca a Quebec based cheerleading apparel company.

Overall the first practice went really well, the group of girls have massive amounts of potential and I look forward to the season!

My Leisure At WIAIH

I work at the West Island Association for the Intellectually Handicapped. On Friday nights I work a program called Drop-In where 45 clients come to the Pointe-Claire arena and we do various activities every week. The other program I work is Saturday City Sights where I take a group of 8 teens to various places in the West Island that vary from the Pool, Dairy Queen, the park, Tim Horton's, the movies, etc...

My reflection on my first week at Concordia

I really enjoyed my first week. I was really nervous to start mainly because I didn't know what to expect. I have a feeling that I am going to like the courses I am registered in. I feel that the teachers are really passionate about what they are teaching and that really helps me be interested to learn. I am looking forward to this semester!
